This is a lifestyle blog about gardening and allotments. I’m a technologist by trade, a software developer with over 12 years experience in e-commerce, social media and agile software development. Awarded Business Leader of Tomorrow by the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) in 2003 for driving business growth, but outside work I seek a completely different lifestyle, mostly outdoors and sustainable where possible. Enjoying the pleasures of life afforded by my career but offsetting my footprint to achieve balance, my work and home life are a complementary contradiction.

I’ve started my blog as hobby and a means of expression, to write in English rather than code and to share with other like-minded people, to provide tips and ideas for living the modern day ‘good life’. Work life balance requires effort and this blog is how I do it. My first post will give you an even better idea of where I am coming from.

If you have any questions about how I have achieved anything career wise or any questions about gardening or other things you read on my blog please do not hesitate to get in touch. I love hearing from like-minded people and those living or seeking a similar lifestyle.

Hi. I hope you don’t mind but I will be featuring your blog on my ‘Bump The Blog’ feature I do on Saturdays (at approx. 7.30pm) over on my ‘notjustgreenfingers’ blog, as your blog looks like it is going to be a good one to follow.
    Hope that’s ok

Hi, I really enjoyed your blog. I am a techie myself. I’ve been a software developer for 17 years, working on enterprise level sites. I liked your homage to Hello World, it brought me back to every programming class I ever had. :-)

I took up gardening as a hobby, but I love the fact that it is the complete opposite to what I do. It gets me outside and away from technology. Its a great balance. Keep up the good work.

Good to meet you Anna. Since I’m based down South it’s great to see how things are doing in the North. I look forward to comparing notes in the future.

Hi Anna, what a lovely blog you have! I share your passion for gardening/allotments but I’m not very ‘techy’ at all (my teenage children cringe at my lack of knowledge), unlike my hubby who also works in e-commerce. Best wishes for a great growing year ahead :)

Thanks so much for visiting and your comments! I must say I prefer being outdoors to being on my computer, I’m either in the garden/allotment or day dreaming about being there! Thanks again for dropping by and best wishes to you too :)

Anna- we share a kinship on both counts! I am a test analyst for the biggest information technology firm in Canada (my office is actually in Virginia), but i also dream of digging in the dirt. My poor garden still waits for me to work the leftovers of the past growing season back in to the plot in preparation for over wintering.

Hello Joe! I’ve met a few IT folk now who are also keen on digging or aspiring diggers. It is a nice change from hanging out with computers all day. Thanks so much for dropping by and for your comment :)

Hi Anna, great blog and I completely get where you’re coming from. When you have a digital day job it’s great to spend your free time doing something completely analogue and ‘real’.

    • Anna B February 23, 2013 at 9:03 pm #

Hi Jon, it’s amazing how many technical folk I meet nowadays who also love a bit of the outside life too :) Thanks so much for dropping by!
